Visitors to Manchester hotels could be transported to the city on the world’s biggest aeroplane later this year.
From September, Emirates Airlines’ A380 ’superjumbo’ will fly daily into Manchester Airport, making it the first regional airport in the world to accommodate the giant aircraft.
The two-deck plane can seat more than 500 passengers and will connect the north-west city with Dubai.
Eight A380 aircraft are currently being operated by Emirates, visiting cities as diverse as Bangkok, Seoul, Sydney, Paris and Toronto.
Manchester Airport’s managing director Andrew Cornish said almost £10 million has been invested in upgrades to bring the A380 to the hub.
"Emirates’ decision to operate daily A380 services between Manchester and Dubai represents a historic moment for this airport and the region that we serve," he commented.
The move from Emirates is a major boost for Manchester Airport, which prides itself on being the north of England’s gateway to the rest of the world and offers flights to 210 destinations.
